Background
Royal Canin is a global leader in science-based cat and dog nutrition, with a dedicated Veterinary Diet range that is only available through veterinary channels. In Singapore, Royal Canin needed a dedicated online ordering platform that could sell prescription-controlled veterinary products to clinics and pet owners — while ensuring every purchase remained compliant with vet-issued prescriptions.
Challenge
Selling prescription diets online is fundamentally different from standard retail. Royal Canin needed a platform where purchase is gated by a valid prescription issued and approved by a licensed vet — meaning the store had to understand each customer's active prescriptions, link them to specific products, and block checkout when a prescription was missing, expired, or did not cover the requested quantity. On top of compliance, the platform needed to migrate from WooCommerce without losing SEO equity, and support the marketing and recurring-purchase needs of a veterinary business.
Solution
CLEARgo delivered a Shopify-based veterinary eCommerce platform purpose-built for prescription-controlled commerce. At its core is a fully custom prescription workflow, supported by centralised CMS and OMS within Shopify, automated vet approval workflows, custom apps, marketing automation and subscriptions, and a carefully handled WooCommerce migration with SEO and analytics setup.
Custom Prescription Workflow
The defining feature of the platform is a fully custom prescription workflow. Vets can issue and approve prescriptions directly, and product purchase is restricted to only those items covered by an approved prescription. The platform links each product to the customer's prescription record, enforcing compliance at the point of sale rather than relying on manual checks.

Centralised CMS and OMS within Shopify
CLEARgo built centralised content management and order management capabilities within Shopify, giving the Royal Canin team a single place to manage the vet diet catalogue — organised by Canine and Feline ranges across Urinary, Dermatology, Weight Management, Gastrointestinal Tract, Vital Support, and Health Management — alongside orders, prescriptions, and customer records.

Automated Vet Approval Workflows
To keep prescription handling efficient and compliant, CLEARgo implemented automated vet approval workflows. When a prescription is issued or a renewal is requested, the workflow routes the request to the right vet for approval and keeps the customer informed of status — reducing manual coordination while preserving the compliance gate on purchase.

Custom Apps: Prescription Management and Vet Admin Tools
Beyond the core workflow, CLEARgo developed custom apps to extend Shopify for the veterinary use case — including prescription management for issuing, tracking, and renewing prescriptions, and vet admin tools that give the Royal Canin team operational control over the prescription and ordering process.
Marketing Automation, Subscriptions, and WooCommerce Migration
To support ongoing engagement and recurring purchases, CLEARgo implemented marketing automation and subscription capabilities suited to veterinary diets, which are typically purchased on a recurring basis. The team also executed the migration from WooCommerce with a focus on preserving SEO equity and configuring analytics so the new platform launched with measurement in place from day one.
